Friday, June 10th:

Saturday, June 11th:
  • 6:00 am - Arrive at Outdoor Chattanooga at Coolidge Park for final packet pickup, sign-in, body marking and timing chip pickup
  • 6:25 am - Load bus for drive to 4.5 Mile Race start location
  • 6:30 am - Leave For 4.5 Mile Race Start
  • 6:50 am - Load Bus for drive to 2.4 Mile Race start location
  • 6:55 am - Leave For 2.4 Mile Race
  • 7:30 am - Race Starts! The 2.4 and 4.5 start simultaneously
  • ~8:30 - 10:30 - Lunch and awards at Walker Pavilion at Coolidge Park
  • NOTE: Outdoor Chattanooga (pre-race gathering) and Walker Pavilion (post-race gathering) are two separate buildings within Coolidge Park. Outdoor Chattanooga is the building next to the large Theatre Centre parking lot that you can enter from River Street or from Tremont as you approach the Rhino sculpture. Walker Pavilion is on the other side of the bridge and carousel and next to the fountains. You can pay to park all morning in the Theatre Centre lot. Kiosks accept cash and credit cards.
Last minute info and answers
  • Water temperature is expected to be in the high 70s.
  • The swim is downstream. But we DO NOT KNOW AND WILL NOT KNOW if there will be any current.
  • The bus will go up to the 4.5 mile race start after dropping off 2.4 swimmers to pick up items left at the start. These items will be brought back to the finish pavilion.
  • You must wear your swim cap during the race. There are 2 different colors for each race.
  • The race finish will be at the take-out past the Market Street Bridge. It will be a LAND FINISH. This is a change from the past years of water finishes under Walnut Street. There will be buoys marking the finish and mats to walk on up to the finish timing line. Click the diagram below for a detailed map of the finish.
  • If you wear a wet suit you will not be eligible for awards. If you are wearing one please let us know when you pick up your packet.
  • Swimmers can wear Lycra or a drag suit or a FINA-approved technical suit and still be eligible for awards.

4.5 mile or 2.4 mile open water swim in the Tennessee River; downstream current with an in-water start and a slightly rocky bottom for both the start and finish. There is NO 1.2 MILE EVENT this year - we now have a 2.4 instead. The water temperature is expected to be approximately 75 degrees.
4.5 mile race start
Swimmers in the 4.5 mile race will meet at Outdoor Chattanooga in Coolidge Park at 6:30 a.m. and be transported to their starting location — Champions Tennis Club and Dock at Rivermont Park, located off Hixson Pike in Chattanooga. The race finishes at Coolidge Park under the Walnut Street bridge.
2.4 mile race start
Swimmers in the 2.4 mile race will meet at Outdoor Chattanooga at 6:45 a.m. and will be taken to their start location.

  • US Masters Swimming swim registration is required of all participants.

Registration and fees
  • $55 EARLY REGISTRATION fee from February 1 to March 15. $65 fee March 15 - June 1. Additional $20 one-day USMS license fee required for participants who are not USMS members. Fee is non-refundable.

  • There will be a pre-race meeting on Friday, June 10 at 5:15 pm at Outdoor Chattanooga to answer any questions you may have about the race.
2016 USMS swimming rules will apply. Swimmers choosing to wear a wet suit will not be eligible for awards or official placing in the results due to the competitive advantage wet suits provide. The water temperature is expected to be about 75 degrees.
Awards will be awarded to First Place Male and Female finishers in each age group. The age groups are 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80-84
T-shirts will be given to each entrant while supplies last.
Awards lunch
The awards lunch will take place immediately following the race at Walker Pavilion in Coolidge Park. Additional lunch tickets can be purchased for $10.00 each.
